What Do I Wear To Goodwood Revival?

Is there an official dress code?

Goodwood Revival does not enforce a rigid dress code in the traditional sense for general admission, but dressing in period style is expected and enthusiastically embraced. The event celebrates the golden age of motor racing from 1948 to 1966, so your outfit should ideally reflect the fashion of the 1940s, 1950s or early 1960s.

Do I have to wear a full vintage outfit? Am I going to stick out if I don't?

You won’t be turned away at the gate in modern high-street clothes, but you will feel like the odd one out! Over 90% of attendees immerse themselves in period attire.

If a head to toe vintage ensemble feels daunting, don't panic. You don't need genuine, fragile antique garments to fit in seamlessly. A 1940s or 50s reproduction piece, such as a classic 1940s tea dress and seamed tights will have you looking completely authentic without compromising on modern comfort.

Are there areas with strict dress codes?

Yes. The Central Paddock (Drivers' Paddock) carries a high expectation of smart period tailoring, gentlemen generally wear tweed jackets, trousers and ties, while ladies wear tailored suits or midcentury dresses. Modern sportswear, hoodies or trainers will stick out heavily here. Furthermore, if you hold tickets for exclusive VIP Pavilions or private evening galas like the Goodwood Revival Ball, the requirement steps up to 1940s-1960s Black Tie or Evening Formal wear (think gowns and tuxedos).

Are any outfits or accessories explicitly banned?

Yes, safety and sensitivity are strictly enforced.

No Controversial Uniforms. Goodwood explicitly bans military uniforms that could cause offence (such as Nazi or Axis WWII uniforms) or culturally insensitive fancy dress.

No Replica Weapons. Even as harmless costume props, replica firearms, swords or explosive props are strictly prohibited across the entire site. Bags are checked at entry.

Roman Holiday

What is the style theme for 2026?

This year’s theme is La Dolce Vita, chosen directly to mark the 80th anniversary of the Vespa scooter. To celebrate eight decades since Piaggio created the iconic scooter in 1946, Goodwood Revival is hosting a daily track opening parade featuring over 300 classic Vespas, Lambrettas and vintage Italian scooters down the pit straight.

Because these legendary two-wheelers are taking centre stage, the festival’s fashion direction leans heavily into 1950s and 1960s Italian Riviera glamour. The film Roman Holiday (1953) is the ideal inspiration, think effortless tailoring, chic headscarves, tailored trousers, bold sunglasses and romantic midcentury silhouettes.

Practical Survival

Can I wear stiletto heels to Goodwood?

We strongly advise against them! You will walk several miles across grass, gravel tracks and paddock lawns. Stiletto heels will sink into the turf and ruin both your shoes and your day. Instead, opt for sturdy 1940s block heels, low-heeled 1950s pumps, vintage wedges or flat leather brogues. If you do wear slim heels, bring heel stoppers.

What happens if it rains?

Goodwood is an outdoor British event in mid September, so rain is always a possibility. Avoid modern brightly coloured rain jackets that break your vintage aesthetic. Instead, pack a chic, lightweight vintage coat, a classic 1940s gabardine jacket or carry a vintage inspired umbrella.

Can I buy tickets at the gate, and can I bring a picnic?

No tickets are sold at the gate. Goodwood Revival is a strictly advance-ticket event that always sells out. Digital tickets are delivered via the official Goodwood ticketing app. Yes! You are welcome to bring your own picnic food and non-alcoholic drinks into general admission areas. Pets are strictly forbidden anywhere on the estate or in parked cars (with the exception of registered assistance dogs).
